The Better Nigeria USA, an association that consists of Nigerians in diaspora and association of Nigerians worldwide will on Sunday 13th September, 2020 provide Ondo State voters another chance to hear from the candidates before casting their votes this October.
The debate, which will hold at the Virtual Zoom Teleconference Meeting ID: 89476538499, is expected to witness talks by candidates of two major political parties in Ondo State.
Speaking to Ikale Voice on Thursday, the Chairman, Better Nigeria in Diaspora (USA), Professor Olafioye Salewa, said the address by the candidates would help Nigerians in diaspora and Ondo State people to decide their right candidate.
He said, “The event will be addressed by officials of World Igbo Congress, the Edo Association World Wide, Ikale World Congress (IWC), Egbe Omo Akure, Ondo State Association of North America, World Council of Egbe Omo Owo, Egbe Omo. Yoruba of North America, Nigeria Foundation and many others.”
The organization consist of more than 350 Nigerians from diverse backgrounds including Yorubas, Ibos, Hausas from Canada, Britain and USA with headquarters based in Detroit Michigan.
Candidates that will be debating are the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Barr. Eyitayo Jegede while the candidate for Zenith Labour Party will be scheduled for later date.
The debate for the governorship candidate for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP will hold at 3.00pm while that of the All Progressives Congress, APC will hold at 5.00pm.
The former United Nations diplomat, Professor and United States based medical Doctor, Dr. Olafioye Salewa stressed the need for Nigerians in diaspora to join in the discourse pointing that development of Nigeria is the responsibility of all Nigerians.
“The Secretary, Better Nigerians in Diaspora (USA), Amb. Titus Amadi, our members of organizations and professionals are more interested in the economic revitalization of the nation.”
“The debate will feature an in-depth discussion around the major issues facing Ondo State. A panel of moderators will pose questions, and the candidates will have the opportunity to answer questions from BNU members.”
“The development of Nigeria is the responsibility of all Nigerians and we are looking forward to fruitful and interactive town hall event,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Public Relation Officer, Better Nigeria USA, Chief Fidelis Okoye has said the desire of Nigerians in diaspora is to have an economically empowered and more united Nigeria.
Chief Okoye said, “All we Nigerians in Diaspora want is an economically empowered, progressive, more united and save Nigeria,”
