Fresh crisis rock the Ilaje Local government chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as political activities gather momentum underground in Ondo State ahead of the October 10 governorship election.
This news medium can authoritatively confirm shakeups within the Excos and leadership of the council chapter of the party following a purported endorsement of a candidate by the chapter leadership.
According to a source, the Former Publicity Secretary of PDP in Ondo State, Banji Okunomo has revealed a document showing consensus endorsement of his gubernatorial ambition by Ilaje Chapter of the party but such claim is not true.
“The document showed that we all signed to have Okunomo as our consensus candidate from Ilaje LG PDP. That is not true. I did not sign that document. I only signed attendance,”
“The entire public and all PDP leaders and delegates should disregard the purported barbaric and evil endorsement being circulated on social media.
Mr. Banji Okunomo is amongst the three aspirants from Ilaje Local Government who has indicated interest to contest the July primaries and are campaigning against the incumbent Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Meanwhile, more than 15 aspirants have indicated interest, mainly in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to unseat Akeredolu, who is currently also facing internal rumbles within his political party, the APC. He also appears to be facing an uphill task to get the party’s second ticket.
The greatest threat to Akeredolu’s second term bid is mainly from his party, APC, as many of the party bigwigs in the state, their followers across the 3009 units, political influencers in the South West and Abuja are sworn adversaries of the governor.
