Akins Palace Foundation is a non-governmental, non – political, non – religious and non – profit making oriented organisation. Established in 2006, the Foundation was formed as a result of poor impact of humanitarian services which forms the major source of instability in Nigeria and world over.
The Foundation has certain peculiarity that makes it standout and distinct from foundation of similar purposes and objectives established in the past.
One may ask what those peculiarities are. The peculiarities are boldly embedded in both the formation, structure and the implementation process as the case had been from the unveiling of the foundation held in Ode – Irele in 2006.
Akins Palace Foundation strongly believes in training and capacity building, knowing fully well that when adequately empowered, the less privileged could become self reliance and contribute positively to the development of the society, and in turn become an instrument of development.
Empowerment, it also believes brings about standard of leaving, good health, conducive environment and atmosphere of peace and friendliness, devoid of social vices.
In particular, the Foundation has just concluded a eight weeks computer training for seventy secondary school students across Irele local government.
The free computer training which was flagged off by the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko at JKC Computer Institute, Ode – Irele in May this year has shown more of a committed foundation.
In May 2011, the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko in his commendation speech in Irele pointed how appreciative his administration is, in the policy implementation of Akins Palace Foundation.
“The Government is indeed very appreciative of this pace – setting effort of Akins Palace Foundation and not only appreciative, but greatly encouraged that the Caring Heart philosophy of this administration is getting much tremendous support from the like minded – citizens of our Sunshine state,” The Governor pointed.
Accordingly, like in several other sister organizations, Akins Palace Foundation was set up to achieve setting social ills among other things, including training of youths in conflict management through capacity building, provision of schooling materials and micro – credit facilities to the poor.
In the pursuit of these laudable objectives, Akins Palace Foundation has since inception in 2006 organised a number of people oriented programmes and activities among them are; Skill acquisition programmes, a yearly extra – moral lesson for students in Junior Secondary School, Senior Secondary School and all the students who registered for external examinations in Irele local government.
The foundation has also organized free transportation following the donation of six buses to convey students who wrote the just concluded Joint Admission and Matriculation Board Examination (JAMB) from Irele local government to their centres outside the Senatorial district.
The examination transportation initiative which started in 2009 has since then supported over 3,000 students from Irele local government. But the transportation initiative this year took a twist as the foundation made available twenty motorcycles that conveyed the students from their various communities and villages to the foundation office in Ode – Irele before departing to the various examination centres.
The over 125 widows that benefited from the distribution of food items across all the communities in Irele local government cannot forget how Akins Palace Foundation met their various festive needs as food items worth over 500,000 went into the distribution in December, 2010.
As more words of commendation storm the secretariat of the Foundation in Ode – Irele, the over 200 prospecting undergraduate students who benefited from the free transportation to JAMB centres in the state, last week, pleaded with the Foundation to discuss with the state government on possibilities of bringing JAMB centres to the Ondo south Senatorial district of Ondo State.
The students pointed that is unfair, not to have a centre for taking a university entrance examination in the district.
“We appreciate what Akins Palace Foundation is doing and know that such efforts from the Foundation are not easy. But we want to appeal to the Foundation to negotiate a better deal for Ondo south Senatorial district. With high rate of road accidents in Nigeria, it would be good to have our JAMB centre here in one of our local government areas in the Ondo south Senatorial district,” the students told this newsmagazine.
Akins Palace Foundation is headed by a young dynamic man as its coordinator as well as Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Comrade Akindele Nenuwa.
